A lot of smartphone manufacturers are integrating AI into their apps. But, there is one company which wants you to stop using apps on phones and switch completely to AI. I am talking about Deutsche Telekom which has brought its Concept AI Phone to this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024.
It’s getting a lot of attention for obvious reasons and I also got a chance to use the device at the conference. A few minutes with this phone and I can tell you that it has really cool tech. But, it doesn’t seem like it will go mainstream anytime soon.
The company believes that there is a future when people will start using phones using text and voice prompts. There are some use cases I saw the conference.
For example, I gave the phone some text prompts to generate images and the results were accurate. Moreover, it could create basic images in under one seconds. However, the device struggled when I gave it more complex commands.
Another use case I was shown was the ability to book flight tickets. Again, using voice commands. I asked the phone to give me different flight options from Barcelona to Delhi and it gave me a list of airlines with exact flight details and prices. There was also an option to book the tickets directly from the interface without having to open an app.
I also asked the phone to buy me a tennis racket. It showed me a bunch of options from Amazon, even though the phone didn’t have the Amazon app. All of this was being processed natively on the phone and very swifty too.
Also, Deutsche Telekom is working with both Qualcomm and MediaTek for these phones. They had two units on demo — one with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and other with Dimensity 7300 chipset.
